Babygro Charity

The SoNeAt Lab and Dr Pascal Vrticka are very happy to announce
a close collaboration with the UK registered Charity Babygro.

Check out this Research Reflections blog Dr Pascal Vrticka wrote for Healthwatch Essex. In the blog, Dr Vrticka discusses the work of transforming his research on attachment in children into an accessible resource for new parents in close collaboration with Dr Amanda Lucas and Babygro.

Babygro Book for Parents

How do our babies’ brains develop, and how does responsive communication between parent and baby lead to later life (mental) health and wellbeing?

The UK Charity Babygro, in collaboration with Dr Pascal Vrticka and the SoNeAt Lab, are very happy to share the Babygro Book for Parents. The Babygro Book’s focus is less on prescribing parenting advice and more on providing a direct line to the latest research findings. In doing so, the Babygro Book’s aim is to empower parents by bringing them trusted, evidence-based information that enables them to feel reassured and confident in their parenting choices.

What is unique about the Babygro Book is that all of its neurobiological explanations are inspired our state-of-the-art functional neuro-anatomical model of human attachment (NAMA).

The Babygro Book has five main components, summarised as CHATS:
1) How parents can become proficient at reading and responding to their infants’ cues and communications.
2) How attachment theory can help parents to understand their own attachment history.
3) How attachment theory can help parents to understand how infant-parent attachment is formed.
4) How talking to infants can help building infants’ understanding of the self and others as well as their emotion regulation skills.
5) How all the above elements are affected by parent-infant synchrony – “turn-taking” exchanges involving mutual eye contact, facial expressions, gestures and vocalisations.

The Babygro Book can be downloaded as a PDF from the Babygro website completely free-of-charge here: https://babygro.org/babygro-book. It is also available as a print copy for £10.

It was a great pleasure and honour to contribute to the Babygro Book’s realisation.

Babygro Professional Training

Babygro now also provides two-day and one-day courses for professionals, delivered by Dr Amanda Lucas and produced in partnership with the Social Neuroscience of Human Attachment Lab.

The courses introduce professionals to leading-edge research on how the developing brain is shaped by parent-infant communication, and map out the relationships between parent-baby interactions, babies’ developing attachment style, and their later-life wellbeing and resilience to stress.

In addition, Babygro also offers practical, evidenced-based, courses for professionals on the topics of Infant Sleep, Breastfeeding and Infant Fussing (including digestive difficulties, wind and colic).
