Prospective PostDoc Researchers

A first call for a YUFE PostDoc position has now closed (deadline was on May 7th, 2023). But there will be a second call opening in October for several 3-year PostDoc positions starting later in 2024.

The two call topics will be Citizens Wellbeing and European Identity. Dr Pascal Vrticka am looking for a PostDoc with an idea around one or both of these topics by using fNIRS hyperscanning.

If you are finishing or recently finished your PhD (up to 6 years before the call deadline), have prior fNIRS (or other relevant neuroimaging) experience and have a project idea using fNIRS hyperscanning, then please get in touch with Dr Pascal Vrticka for further discussion on how to apply for this position together.

Dr Vrticka will please need your current CV and a project proposal to start the discussion.

Prospective PhD Students

The University of Essex has just announced 17 PhD Research Scholarships (across all faculties) for the 2023-2024 intake, with a start date in October 2023. Application Deadline is June 10, 2023.

PhD applications can be made related to one of the following five themes: Artificial Intelligence, Climate and Sustainability, Coastal Communities, Health, Wellbeing and Ageing, Security and Resilience.

Please get in touch with Dr Pascal Vrticka if you have a PhD project idea related to one (or more) of the above themes that could be realised within the SoNeAt Lab. The main current neuroimaging method used is fNIRS hyperscanning.

An additional avenue to secure PhD funding is through the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS). There are student-led and collaborative studentships available every year. Please check the respective deadlines. The next call for student-led studentship will open towards the end of 2023 for a start in October 2024. The 2023 call for a collaborative studentship is currently open but without participation of the SoNeAt Lab.

It is advisable to contact Dr Vrticka well in advance of the final deadlines (several months) to provide yourself adequate time to develop your research proposal. Studentships in the Department of Psychology at University of Essex are very competitive and a high quality research proposal is essential to receive a funded offer.
